The free library is located at Liberty Township Schoolhouse No. 2. in Shelbyville, Indiana. This historic one-room schoolhouse was built in 1875. Since 2022, it’s housed our free community library. Come visit and celebrate 150 years of history!
The free library operates as a “third place” in our community. “Third places” are informal, public gathering spots separate from home (first place) and work (second place), fostering social interaction and community. Come visit, browse the bookshelves, relax, and enjoy time spent in this unique space. Please keep in mind that this is a historic building built in 1875.
The free library operates solely on donations. Many people ask how they can support the free library. We accept book donations during our hours of operation at the schoolhouse. You can also donate to our PayPal Giving Fund. Click the link below to learn more and to make a donation.
